You know, it's been a while since we've had a movie about kids playing baseball. It was a can't-lose plot.

The Sandlot
Rookie of the Year
Little Big League
Angels in the Outfield (kinda)
That movie with Keanue Reeves...I totally forget the name right now.

All of these movies were awesome, without exception...especially the Sandlot. If you hated the Sandlot, you probably hate all of the forces of good in this universe, because COME ON!

It's been a while since I've seen a good kids baseball movie. People need to make more.

(By the way, I do not count any of those sequels as something worth discussing. Let's just ignore them. )

Meme from acsumama:

I know very little about some of the people on my friends list. Some people I know relatively well. I read your journals, or we have something else in common and we chat occasionally. Some of you I hardly know at all. Perhaps you lurk, for whatever reason. But you friended me and I thank you for your interest in my words.

But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself? Any old thing at all, the more trivial and fascinating, the better. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's so and so...they enjoy nose-picking on balmy summer evenings, and have a giant birthmark shaped like a wildebeest on their right buttock."

I'd love it if every single person who friended me would do this. Yes, even you people who I know really well. Then post this in your own journal and see what gems of knowledge appear.

If you don't reply, I will EAT YOUR SOUL WITH MINT JELLY!

Random thing: Every have one of those flavored-oil thingies? I forget what they're called, but there's sticks that come out of them, and you have to flip the sticks every week or so, so that the whole house smells good.

I spilled the whole thing on my phone. I didn't know until about ten minutes after I did it, either. Regardless, it still works. It smells damn good, and it still works.

I think today's gonna be a good day.

I'm going to go on a Boston-related sports rant for a second, so if you're not a fan of that, I suggest skipping this post.

I'm not a huge fan of ESPN's Bill Simmons, but I can tolerate him. He's very knowledgeable when it comes to several sports topics, and I'm probably come to him if I needed any advice regarding a baseball or football team. The guy seems to know his stuff, and I respect him for that.

BUT…

…this whole attitude about "The Patriots might be the best team EVER" just needs to stop, because it's incredibly foolish. This isn't just coming from him, but that's where I mostly see it coming from. I saw analysts on Fox talking about it. I've heard it on Around the Horn. I've heard several bloggers say it. They could be the best team in the last five years, I will admit that. I don't think you could find someone that would argue that point. Still…saying that someone is the best team ever after six weeks of games played is just amazing, and I don't understand how people can say that without at LEAST thinking it over a bit.

-The Pats have not played a single decent secondary yet. No, not even Dallas. Their offensive line is great, yes, but once they get that passing game calmed down a bit by a decent secondary (for example, Washington), the games won't be so easy. It's well known that Buffalo, Cleveland, Cincinnati and the Jets have questionable secondaries this year. San Diego has finally gotten it back together, but Brett Favre and…surprise…Damon Huard made them look terrible this season. This wasn't a one-game thing. As for the Cowboys, Eli Manning got 4 TDs on them. Trent Green got a couple, and then fell apart late as the game slipped away from them. Their three good games have been against Rex Grossman, Trent Edwards, and an injured Marc Bulger. Not exactly awesome QBs. Once they face a Washington, a Pittsburgh, or a Baltimore (and the Ravens' secondary isn't great YET, but they should be fine when the Pats come to town), they should come back down to earth. I'm not sure if they'll lose, but they could.

-The explosive offense that they've had all season is likely the reason that their defense is so dominant. Yes, Samuel and AD have a lot to do with it, but if you're down 17 points near the end of the first half, you're gonna get desperate, change the game plan, and start throwing. A shootout will probably never work with this team (well, unless you're the Colts), so a team needs to hold down the pass, and then do what they do on offense. Their defense isn't nearly as good as the analysts have made them out to be. They're great, no doubt, but any team is great when they're playing against a desperate team that's down by 3 scores.

-And just a random this about SpyGate…Wasn't this the same team that was being destroyed by every analyst, talking about how they cheated, and how Bill Belly should be fined and suspended? All of this talk suddenly ended when they kept winning? There's absolutely no way that the Pats could have kept film on all of these teams already, or something? I know that they said that they got rid of all of the information, but really…if he cheated and got caught once, are they really, really sure that they have gotten all of their taping materials? We'll never be sure. They could be doing the exact same thing right now, and nobody would know about it. Why has nobody talked about this anymore? It's like people stopped caring. Maybe I'm not checking out the right sites? Can someone fill be in, here?

They have weaknesses, just not that many. It's been six weeks. Teams will find them.

Still…they have to be the frontrunners for the Super Bowl right now. They're not the best team ever, but holy hell are they ever good.

...and that's why they put leaves over their naughty bits.
